An Early Day Motion (EDM 795) was tabled at the House of Commons on 12th October 2010, World Arthritis Day by Liberal Democrat MP Adrian Sanders from the Torbay constituency. Early day motions (EDMs) are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. This motion asked that the House commends the work of the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society in supporting the 690,000 people in the UK with rheumatoid arthritis.
As you may be aware, last year the National Audit Office and Committee of Public Accounts published its report - Services for people with rheumatoid arthritis. The report painted a rather depressing picture for people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Even though more than half a million people are affected with RA and there are approx 26,000 new cases each year, it is not as well publicised as other conditions, though is a lot more common than leukaemia and multiple sclerosis.
The motion calls for members of the house to support NRAS’s campaign to ensure that opportunities provided through the NHS reforms enable effective joint working between the NHS, public health and social care services and result in improved outcomes for people with rheumatoid arthritis.
We need as many MP's as possible to sign EDM 795. It is not specifically for World Arthritis Day so you can ask your MP any time soon.
You can also see whether your MP has already signed the EDM at the following link: http://edmi.parliament.u...D=41761&SESSION=905

I have been having email conversations around EDM with my MP. He does not sign them as a rule and I questioned why. He is one of the new intake, so he might need a bit of training, but at least he has more of an idea about RA than before I started pestering him!
